Il graphic novel tra avanguardia e underground: il caso di Pablo Echaurren

In questo articolo vengono presi in esame i graphic novel di Pablo Echaurren dedicati alla vita e alle opere di artisti “rivoluzionari”, quali Marinetti, Picasso, Majakovskij, e alla storia di movimenti d’avanguardia come il Futurismo e il Dadaismo. Questi testi, che si collocano tra i primi esempi di graphic novel in Italia, si presentano come una rielaborazione critica delle tecniche caratteristiche del fumetto. In questo senso viene evidenziato come, in linea con gli obiettivi e le strategie artistiche dei movimenti controculturali degli anni Settanta, l’obiettivo precipuo dell’autore sia quello di contrapporsi alle modalità mimetiche della rappresentazione, invalse in un genere di consumo quale il fumetto, attraverso l’utilizzo di soluzioni di tipo avanguardistico.

This paper investigates Pablo Echaurren’s graphic novels dedicated to the life and works of “revolutionary” artists, such as Marinetti, Picasso and Majakovskij, and to the history of avant-garde groups such as Dadaism and Futurism. These texts, which are among the first examples of this genre in Italy, present themselves as a critical reworking of the techniques used in comics. In this sense, it is highlighed how, in accordance with the objectives and artistic strategies of the countercultural movements of the seventies, the author’s main objective is to oppose the mimetic modes of representation, established in a kind of entertainment texts such as comics, through the use of avant-garde solutions.
